Wuthering Heights Makes the Naughty List

For being the kind of story that makes me say, “Bah!”, Wuthering Heights makes the naughty list.

I’ve just suffered through the 1939 film edition of this Gothic romance, and the only further thing I have to say is this: “Bring on Jane Austen.”

I couldn’t agree more! I listened to an audiobook of Wuthering Heights a few months back and kept getting frustrated by it. I found it hard to believe that in a recent poll of UK readers it was voted the #1 love story of all time, beating out Romeo & Juliet and Pride & Prejudice. Ugh.

The #1 love story of all time? Bah. That’s like saying that Apocalypse Now is the #1 romantic comedy of all time.

    Kathy’s father loved.

    Kathy’s husband, Edgar, loved.

Kathy and Heathcliff certainly did not love.
