Friday Lunch Update
My typical Friday includes lunch with my Laridian associates. However, loyal readers may be concerned that I’ve been going hungry during the month of December. Let me put your concerns to rest — my Friday lunches have continued. It’s only my weekly reports about my Friday lunches that have been missing. You see, we’ve not found any new locations to try for the month, and I wondered whether I had anything new to add to my previous reports.
In a feeble effort to make this up to my loyal readers, I offer the following report. I caution you to not take it in all at once.
Yesterday, December 28, we had planned to have pizza at Zoey’s in Marion. However, the freshly fallen snow encouraged us to try something closer, so we returned to Beckett’s Public House. I opted for the cup of soup (Irish Stew), 1/2 salad, and 1/2 sandwich (Public Club), all for only $6. While other locations offer a soup and sandwich or a soup and salad or a salad and sandwich, few offer all three bundled together in one choice. Kudo’s to Beckett’s!
On Friday, December 21, we returned to Tomasso’s Pizza and Barbeque in Hiawatha. Much to our surprise (and disappointment), the and Barbeque has been removed from the menu. As a result, we all opted for the salad and pizza bar. As with our previous visit, we were faced with the dilemma of needing to choose between the 1-slice bar, the 2-slice bar, or the unlimited-slice bar (for an additional $3). We sprung for the unlimited pizza bar, though in retrospect, the 2-slice would have been sufficient for most of our party.
On Friday, December 14, we returned to Siena Park. You may recall that Siena Park features brick-oven pizza and many or all of the pasta choices from the previous Nothin’ But Noodles that preceded Siena Park. One nice thing about Siena Park is the lunch special, which bundles a personal pizza with a salad. This allows every one in the party to choose the pizza that they prefer, rather than potentially having to negotiate a single pizza order. I chose the Sicilian: Italian sausage, roasted red peppers, caramelized onions, garlic, mozzarella and tomato sauce. It was OK, but next time I’ll return to the Hawaiian.
Now, let’s see, where did we go on Friday, December 7? I’m not sure, but I think it might have been Chili’s. Since I’m not even sure if that’s where we actually went, you probably won’t be surprised to learn that I can’t remember my selection. I’m sure it was a healthy choice, however.
If you have any suggestions for new restaurants for us to try, please leave a comment. I recently learned of a pita restaurant located somewhere downtown, so perhaps we’ll give that a try soon.
