The Goal of the Church

“The goal of the Church is to influence culture through good works. Good works are things that benefit others who are in need, for which God gets the glory. We need to be known for the good works we do. … Compassion is part of our DNA, and churches are closer to the needs of the people. No other national entity can bring eternal value into temporal reality.”

No. Not this. When Christ left his disciples and followers, He didn’t tell them, “Influence culture. Try to do good works to make the people around you “better” people.” He said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptize them in the Trinity, and teach them all I’ve taught you.”

Yes, we ought to love because Christ loves and whosoever does not love is not of God. Yes, we ought to do good works, because God is good and so that He may get the glory. Yes, churches are closer to the needs of the people, because we are the people and those without the church. I agree with that, but those are not the goals of the church.
