my new pastime

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

I’ve decided to handle spam emails in my blog comments a little differently. Instead of quietly deleting them, I will now be lampooning the good ones. And by “good”, I mean the ones that are most easily lampooned.

Check out the comment list to the right to see how it’s working out.

Quality Stuff For Sale

Friday, September 24th, 2010

If you’ve got cash burning a hole in your wallet, want to get a headstart on your Christmas shopping, or just like great stuff, you’ve come to the right place. Leave a comment or email me if you’re interested. As items are spoken for, I”ll “x” them off the list. All items are thought to be in working condition. If you discover otherwise, I’ll gladly refund your purchase.

SOLD! Kenmore Upright Freezer — approximately 10 cubic feet. I bought this from a neighbor several years ago for $70 and have kept it in my garage. The door is not equipped with a lock, so I invented and installed a mechanism that will chime when the door is open or ajar. A must-have, custom feature if you have kids that will be getting ice cream bars out of the freezer. Trust me. Special price for math majors: $2.50 per cubic foot. ($25 for everyone else.)

SOLD! Sony BDP BX-1 Blu-ray Player — purchased new about 2 years ago, when such things cost way more than they do now. Remote, box and instructions included. You can get a bargain and still make me feel good by buying it at this low, low price: $50.

Home Entertainment System, 1980′s Style — buy the TV, DVD Recorder and Digital Converter box detailed below (total of $25) and have a home entertainment system superior to anything commonly used in the 1980′s!

Magnavox HD2715 27″ TV — an older TV with a real TV tube and remote. Inputs include an antenna input and vintage video/stereo audio jacks. Takes two to move, so you know it’s quality. $10.

SOLD! Toshiba D-R2 DVD Recorder — about 7-8 years old, I’d estimate. Records to DVD-RAM and DVD R/RW. Also serves as a DVD player. I’ve not actually used it in several years, but think it works. Remote, box and instructions included. $10.

SOLD! Digital Converter Box — to connect an older TV to a new digital antenna. Add one to the TV above for an inexpensive broadcast TV watching experience. Two to choose from. $5.

Plus, when you respond now, you get added savings because there are never any shipping and handling fees. (There’s never any shipping, either, as you’ll be picking up your new quality stuff directly from me.)

International Talk Like a Cowboy Day

Yippee! It’s here at last — International Talk Like a Cowboy Day. It only happens once a year, so let’s git right down to it. If you need some help with the lingo, listen to what the famous Cowboy, Tom Landry, had to say.

“Leadership is getting someone to do what they don’t want to do, to achieve what they want to achieve. “

“Today, you have 100% of your life left.”

“A winner never stops trying.”

hat-trick

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

My friend John and I used to joke about starting a business, where a guy could get the oil changed in his car, get a haircut, and go to the dentist all in one stop. Our theory was that these are three things that men hate to do, so getting them done all at once would be better than the alternative of three different trips.

What “necessary but no-fun” things would make your list, that would be better done all at once to get them over?
